Device Management

Build devices that can be monitored, managed and accessed remotely, even if located behind NAT routers, firewalls or in mobile networks. Access the web interface of your field devices from everywhere. Use SOAP web services to access device data.

The device management platform from Applied Informatics enables building connected devices that can be remotely monitored, controlled and managed, even if the devices are connected to mobile networks, or networks behind NAT routers and firewalls. It is even possible to remotely access the device's web interface, for direct access to and interaction with the device. The device management platform consists of a set of C++ libraries for devices, as well as a modular and extensible device management server, based on the Open Service Platform and Remoting.

Device Management Platform Overview

Benefits and Features

  • add remote monitoring, control and management features to embedded systems
  • access the web interface of embedded devices from everywhere, even if the devices are located in a network behind NAT routers, firewalls, HTTP proxy servers or mobile networks
  • distribute configuration changes and firmware updates to multiple devices at once
  • collect and store status and performance information, as well as application-specific data from devices
  • SOAP and JSON web services for easy integration into Java/.NET and browser-based applications
  • web services can be hosted directly on the device, or on the device management server (for smaller devices)
  • no remote access infrastructure (like VPN) and no NAT/firewall configuration changes (like port forwarding) required to access remote devices
  • uses Reverse HTTP, a variant of HTTP, to send requests to devices — can transparently tunnel through NAT routers, firewalls and HTTP proxy servers
  • modular, fully customizable and extensible system architecture
  • configurable triggers, notifications and alarms (e.g., automatically send an email or SMS message if a device goes unexpectedly online)
  • HTTPS and SSL/TLS for secure encrypted data transfer over the internet
  • device management server supports ODBC and MySQL databases
  • device management server can optionally be hosted by Applied Informatics
